Studying in Malaysia is an important step toward a promising academic and professional future, but the start of the journey can be full of questions — especially if this is your first time travelling abroad to study.
That's why we've prepared this comprehensive guide to accompany you from the moment you pack your bags until you settle in at university, so you can begin your academic journey in Malaysia with confidence and peace of mind.
First: Before Travelling to Malaysia
1. Required Documents
Before your travel date, make sure you have all of the following documents ready:
- A passport valid for at least 18 months.
- The visa approval letter (eVAL).
- The university offer letter.
- Your flight ticket.
- A printed and a digital copy of all important documents.
- Your accommodation address or place of stay on arrival.

2. Packing Your Luggage
Since Malaysia has a hot and humid tropical climate most of the year, we recommend preparing:
- Light, comfortable clothing.
- An umbrella or light raincoat.
- Some starting cash to cover initial expenses (preferably between RM 1,000 and RM 1,500).
3. Three Days Before Travelling
A few days before your trip, make sure to:
- Send your flight details to the Jusoor team
- Confirm airport pickup arrangements (if applicable)
- Keep Jusoor team contact numbers handy for emergencies or any questions
Second: Upon Arrival in Malaysia
Arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
After your plane lands at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, your first steps into Malaysia begin.
Steps Inside the Airport
- Head to Immigration — you'll be asked to present your passport and your visa approval letter (eVAL). After your documents are verified, you'll receive your official entry stamp into Malaysia.
- Collect your baggage — once immigration is complete, head to the baggage belt to collect your luggage.
- Meet the welcoming parties — after exiting the arrivals area, waiting for you will be: a university representative to follow up on official registration and study procedures, and a Jusoor representative to accompany you and provide the support you need until you arrive safely at your accommodation.
Third: After Arrival
1. Medical Check-up
All international students are required to undergo a medical examination at an approved medical centre within 7 days of arrival. This is one of the essential requirements for completing your student visa procedures.
2. Completing University Procedures
University procedures usually include:
- Submitting your passport to the university
- Completing your student visa activation
- Receiving your student card (depending on the university)
- Attending orientation programmes for new students
3. Accommodation and Settling In
When you receive your accommodation, be sure to:
- Check the condition of the room and facilities
- Photograph any pre-existing issues or damage
- Review the accommodation rules
- Save your accommodation location on Google Maps to make getting around easier later
